Announcements:

The Commencement Ceremony for Deer Creek High School’s Class of 2012 will take place on Friday, May 18 at 7:00 p.m.  The venue for the ceremony has been changed, due to hockey playoffs at the Cox Center (Go Barons!).  The ceremony will now be held at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in downtown Oklahoma City. We’re excited to be given the opportunity to celebrate our seniors’ graduation at such a beautiful venue!

Directions and Graduation Instructions click here.

Deer Creek High School will graduate the Class of 2012 at 7:00 P.M., Friday, May 18 at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City.
The holding room and the floor of the Chesapeake Arena are open to graduates only.  Out of respect for other graduates and their families, we ask that your party remain seated until the ceremony is completed.  You may then meet with the graduates outside the Chesapeake Arena on the north side of the building (“Thunder Alley”)

  • Appropriate Dress for Graduation

Males: Dress slacks (no jeans), collared dress shirt, tie, and dress shoes.  Do NOT wear athletic shoes, flip flops or sandals.  Nothing of value can be left in the holding room.
Females: Dresses or skirts that do not show below the hem of the gown, dress slacks, appropriate shoes with low heels (you will do a lot of walking, so high heels are discouraged), no flip flops or athletic shoes, no corsages, no jewelry on outside of gown, no purses – nothing of value can be left in the holding room.
Nothing can be on the mortarboard (the hat).  No decorations, words, etc. – nothing!
Graduates must be in the holding room no later than 6:30 P.M.  Graduates must be dressed and ready to go at this time.  Only graduates are allowed in the holding room. Specific directions to the holding room will be sent to parents and graduates via e-mail, as well as during graduation rehearsal on May 15.

  • Seating

The Chesapeake Arena will open for seating at 6:00 P.M.

Neither graduates nor attendees may save seats in the Chesapeake Arena.  Doing so will result in removal from the premises.  This guideline is established by the Chesapeake Arena.

  • Noise Makers, Etc.

According to the Chesapeake Arena Contract, noise makers are prohibited.  Use of such items will result in removal of the item and the user from the premises.
A fee of $500 will be assessed by the Arena if silly string, confetti, streamers, etc. are used during and after graduation.

  • Graduation Rehearsal

All graduates are required to attend graduation rehearsal.  Failure to do so will result in the graduate being unable to participate in the graduation ceremony.  The only exception to this is those students involved in AP Testing at the time of rehearsal.
Rehearsal will take place on Tuesday, May 15, at 9:00 a.m. in the DCHS auditorium.

  • Graduation Photographs and DVD

A professional photographer will take pictures of the presentation of diplomas.  If you would like to receive a direct link to your graduate’s photographs, register via the Candid Color link on the DCHS website.

The Senior DVD and Class of 2012 Graduation DVD may be pre-ordered at www.deercreekseniordvd.com or by mailing in the order form on the website.

Credit Recovery: Students will be able to work at their own pace, but a good guide would be one half (1/2) a credit per session.  Students needing to complete a full (1) credit (an entire course – 2 semesters) should enroll for both morning and afternoon sessions.  Students could finish early if they work at a focused, fast pace.  Students also have access to the curriculum from home 24 hours a day so that they may work on the weekends and evenings if they so choose.  All assessments are done in the classroom.  Once students finish the coursework they are done and are not required to attend the remaining days.
End of Instruction Remediation: Summer Testing Preparation (enroll separately with school counselor) Sessions are June 19, 2012, Tuesday and June 21, 2012, Thursday – am session and pm session.
Attendance:  Being diligent to maintain good attendance is very important for students hoping to gain the best opportunity for credit recovery.  No provisions can be made for vacations or “special situations”.  There are no “excused” or “unexcused” absences.  Students enrolled in a course must participate in the daily session until they are completed.  Failure to attend will result in NO CREDIT being awarded for that course.
